A quick and dirty woodcraft way is to hug it.
One hug equals about 6ft for me coz that’s my height. This old stick took 2.3 hugs so about 14ft around the trunk. For a beech, that equates to about 220 years old. Other tree species tot up a little differently but the hugging’s always the same 😊
