About Foraging Origins

Our prehistoric ancestors are largely overlooked by us these days, relics of a past that has little relevance to us today but we've a lot to thank them for. Without their knowledge and profound understanding of the landscapes that sustained them, we wouldn't be here today.

Foraging Origins goes beyond teaching you about the plants and fungi of our wild larder. During each course we'll encourage you to put yourself into the mindset of our prehistoric ancestors. How they might have viewed the wild landscapes around them. How they used their knowledge to create a relationship with these environments that sustained them so well.

 

Foraging Origins was born from its parent company Venture to Victory as a natural progression to the many adventurous fundraising expeditions set up by owner Simon Ford. From the Arctic Circle to the Sahara Desert, and the mountains of the High Atlas to the wilds of Mongolia.

 

Simon's experiences with local communities, their history, and particularly their connection to the land drew a fascination to the origins of our own ancient ancestors here in Britain.​

Every course that we offer has a link to these ancient origins and we place this history firmly in the context of our prehistoric lineage as we bring these skills right up to the present day.
